An Excel budget that tracks what you earn, owe, save and can safely spend — with optional AI agents in a side panel. Your budget file stays on your computer.

It opens on Home in Simple mode (7 tabs). Follow the checklist there — about 20 minutes. Every number is typed once; the other tabs fill in from it. Need more? Show all tabs from the panel or right-click a tab › Unhide.

One file for every year: in January, Close the year moves the year to the History tab and starts fresh.

Add the AI agents (optional)

The agents answer questions, plan paychecks, find savings and build plans for your goals. Pick your computer:

  1. Open Terminal (press ⌘ Space, type Terminal, press Return).
  2. Copy this line, paste it into Terminal, press Return:

  3. Quit Excel completely and reopen it. Open your budget › Home › Budget Agents.

Prefer a file? Download the installer and double-click it (if macOS blocks it: System Settings › Privacy & Security › Open Anyway).

  1. Right-click the Start button › Terminal (or Windows PowerShell).
  2. Copy this line, paste it, press Enter:

  3. Close Excel completely and reopen it. Open your budget › Home › Add-ins › Budget Agents.

Prefer a file? Download the installer and double-click it (if Windows warns: More info › Run anyway).

  1. Download the add-in file (budget-agents.xml).
  2. Upload your budget to OneDrive and open it in Excel on the web.
  3. Home › Add-ins › More Settings › Upload My Add-in › choose budget-agents.xml › Upload.

Excel on the web forgets uploaded add-ins if you clear your browser data — just upload it again.

Choose the agents' brain

The first time the panel opens it asks how the agents should think. Any of these work, and you can switch later with ⚙.

Technical? Host it yourself

Run your own copy of the panel on GitHub Pages or your own Azure, with your own key — nothing depends on this site. Instructions are in SELF-HOST.md in the project (GitHub template + one setup step).

What data goes where?

Your budget file never leaves your computer or OneDrive. When you run an agent, only the parts of the workbook that agent needs are sent to the AI you picked — directly with your own key, or through the sharer's invite-code server if you use a code (it counts calls; it doesn't store your data). Keys stay in the panel on your computer, never in the workbook. Agents give planning ideas, not financial advice.
